The New Collection by Barjis = Exciting!!

These are some sneak peaks of the new collection by label Barjis, and we are so excited to see what else is to come. The company was founded in 2000 by Barjis Chohan, who will be showcasing her stunning new collection at Dubai Fashion Week 2011, and what’s more, Hijablicious will be showing it all straight from the catwalk.

What we love about Barjis so far is it is London based (yess we have talent!) and made for real women, and completely 100% wearable instead of crazy unrealistic designs which lets face it, we wouldn't be seen dead in! Barjis states that 'I design clothes not costumes and I am catering for women who would like to look feminine and stylish but not look like a Christmas tree', and we couldn't agree more with this ethos!

Keep your eyes peeled for the new collection straight from Dubai Fashion Week!!

Dine and Design 2011- Event CANCELLED

DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES WE HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED THAT THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED UNTIL FUTHER NOTICE.

For the second year running, this exciting event returns and promises to be a fantastic evening full of fashion, entertainment and most importantly, raising money for charity.

Organised by a dedicated team in conjunction with Muslim Hands, Dine and Design hopes to create awareness of the plight of women in Afghanistan, a war ravaged country which is one of the worst places on the planet to be female. The money will specifically go towards supporting a maternal health clinic, which desperately needs the money.

The event will be hosted by the lovely Muneera from Poetic Pilgrimage, and ex-MTV host Kristiane Backer and features catwalk shows, a 3 course Afghan meal (YUM!) as well as an opportunity to mingle and network with other girls and women, and do what we do best, chit chat!!! So there is no excuse not to attend (unless you live on the other side of the world and then you can be excused!), dress up, get your heels on, have a great night whilst making a difference.

For more information about the event, please visit, www.dine-and-design.co.uk or if you would like to contact the team email them on dineanddesign1@gmail.com

Maxi'licious!

Maxi it out with gorgeous skirts that sweep the floor, making you feel like the goddess that you really are!

This outfit has been put together for a casual look, but maxi skirts are perfect for evenings out and special occasions when teamed with the right shoes and accessories. Most stores had maxi skirts in during the Spring/Summer season and still have them in right now in a number of materials, including jersey and chiffon. Before purchasing them, it is important to try them on because they can be quite long especially if you are petite. In that case, a pair of heels always comes in handy, or you can have someone turn it up at the bottom. I love the Chiffon type material because it looks good and sleek but it can also be see through so make sure you check what it looks like on.

Plus, even though winter is coming up, it doesn't mean we have to say goodbye to maxi skirts. Teamed with boots, chunky knits and a belt with some tights underneath, they looks as good as ever. Hopefully we will do a feature soon on how to put a winter maxi look together soon.

Power in the Flower: Introducing Al Kawthar (Plus 10% off!)

We were given two scarves to review by the lovely team at Al Kawthar, an exciting online store that caters for the needs of those interested in modest clothing. This includes Abayas, Hijabs, Accessorises and Children's items.
We got our hands on two of their rectangular headscarves, a Pink Spotted Bali scarf at £5.25, and a  Black scarf called Laced Beauty at £5.89.

The Pink Spotted Bali scarf was quite big and rectangular in shape which is what I prefer since it gives lots of material to play with, layer up and you can wrap it pretty much as you like. The material was Bali cotton, soft and lovely on the touch, but for me the big winner was the colour. I love dusky pinks, and combined with the polka dots, it had a fun and funky edge to it that can brighten even a plain outfit.

Before wearing the scarf, I put my hair up, as I usually do (you can also add a volumising clip if you use them) and then wrapped the scarf around. I then pinched the top bringing the layers forward, and then let it hand loose on the side. I would advise not to use safety pins as it might snag the material but instead use straight pins and be careful with them. As you an see, the border of the scarf has smaller dots, which gives it more character at the front of the scarf.

Spotted Bali is also available in White, Camel, Purple and Grey.

The Black Laced Beauty scarf, was slightly different, and not the type of scarf you'd wear for casual use but more so for an evening out,  a wedding or a party. It is also a rectangle shape, but is split down the middle horizontally one side being plain black and the other gold and black lace in a flower like pattern. The edges have black tassels on, which gives it an original look when on, and adds to the glamour look. The size is not big enough to be worn on its own (unless my head is big :p) and so I wore a plain gold pashmina underneath first, which complimented the black and gold lace in the scarf. I then wrapped the laced scarf around loosely, so that the tassels hung at the front. It can also be worn around your neck, and looks rather groovy.

Laced Beauty in Black

I loved both the scarves, which arrived safely, securely and wrapped in plastic packaging. The delivery was also incredibly fast. With scarves ranging from £4.99 to £5.99 I think it is a very affordable store , which deserves a visit.

Furthermore, we have secured a SPECIAL OFFER for our readers. 10% of your purchase at Al Kawthar, when you used the code 'Hijablicious' at the checkout. (Valid until the 27th October)
